Emma Bridgewater's distinctive pottery is made from an earthenware mix. The white clay arrives in solid form, is mixed with water until it becomes a smooth slip. The creamy slip is poured into plaster moulds and when just dry enough the mould is opened and the pots are ready to be dried. They are then biscuit fired and go to the spongeware department to be hand sponged, before glazing. The are then refired before the litho patterns are hand applied. After all of this, they are fired for a third time. All of this hand work is done in Stoke-on-Trent, in the traditional manner for 18th century creamware. $1500 opening order, 4-6 weeks ship time. |
